Do you like corn flakes?  I do!  However, it’s not on the weekly menu for me, ‘cuz I like lots of protein for breakfast!  Corn flakes are a treat, kinda like pancakes or biscuits or even toast.  :-)   The nice folks at Attune Foods,  (Hi & big wave to Annelies!) sent me some of their cereal to check out.  My houseful of 6 bodies, 4 teens, along with hubby & me-self, tried their organic corn flake cereal.

Whenever I eat cold cereal, I have a strange desire to read the cereal box. Wow!  Haven’t outgrown that childhood habit…why didn’t I do something more….more…efficient, like read literature or study my Latin?  Well, it’s not much different now.  As I ate my bowl of Erewhon organic corn flakes, I had to read their box.  There…I confessed.

Boy, Attune Foods gives us lots of stuff to read too.  Do they know we read cereal boxes?  I learned they are committed to healthy foods, without additives, that make our bodies feel good.  Their corn flakes are made with U.S. grown organic, non-GMO corn.  Yippee!  Just that one fact sold me on their cereal.  They also understand the gluten free issue & Celiac disease.  Another must have for me!  They have scored A++ so far.

We ate our bowls of cereal the “traditional” way, with milk, except for my son who thinks milk on cereal is gross.  What?Erewhon Gluten Free Corn Flake Cereal  (He cannot stand mushy cereal.)  At first glance, I noticed the cereal seemed thicker & a little larger than other corn flakes.  I tried them before milk and decided they were definitely thicker, had more texture and a stronger “corny” flavor than the other guys.  My “dry cereal” son agreed.  I like the fact there are only 2 ingredients…organic corn & sea salt.  Awesome!

As for the next step…we were in for another pleasant surprise.

Erewhon organic corn flakes are not in the “mushy in milk” category.

After pouring milk over the flakes, we ate them immediately, but didn’t rush through our bowls.  We had to really taste each bite, so we could share it with you, right?  :-)   They were delicious & full of flavor.

Then, Erewhon organic corn flakes gave us another surprise!  I poured a very small serving, just enough to sample…you know, just in case… :-)   Although the serving was about half  of a normal serving for me,  I was quite full!  It kept me going until lunch.  Is it because they’re made from just organic corn & salt?  Nothing more, nothing less.  I think so!  Now, that’s GR-R-REAT!

Oh & did I mention Erewhon’s corn flakes do not get mushy in milk? Yea!

Now, the flakes do soften, of course, but instead of turning to mush, they gained a “toothy” texture.  Not exactly chewy, just “toothy”.  That’s the only way we could describe it.  We also added a small amount of sugar to taste the difference.  I liked mine plain, but a lot of folks might prefer some kind of sweetener.  The organic corn has a wonderful sweet taste, imho.  :-)   The rich texture of the corn flakes would complement fresh fruit in your cereal bowl as well.  The only thing I would change about this cereal is a touch more salt.  Maybe it’s just the dry, hot conditions I’ve been living in over the summer (it’s still summer here, by the way…September just means lower 90′s, instead of 100+ degree heat) has caused a serious salt craving…I don’t know.  I added a tiny touch of Real Salt to my bowl & then declared it an awesome bowl of organic corn flakes.

I still have some yummy cereal left, since the box has been off limits to my kids, after our initial bowl, our course.  Had they had their way, it would be long gone by now.  :-)   I’m planning to make salmon patties.  My grandmother made hers with a crushed corn flake breading & I haven’t had them like that in ages.  I think they would be perfect in any recipe that calls for corn flakes…

Which, speaking of recipes, I noticed on the Attune Foods  site, their Cooking Challenges Recipe Contest, which starts next month.  Go check it out!  Each month, for 3 months, winner gets $200 bucks & $200 buck goes to Share Our Strength.  Our gluten free community is FULL of creative, talented chefs, so I know ya’ll can win…  :-)

Thanks @attunefoods!  I appreciate your commitment to tasty non-GMO & gluten free foods.

I love that I can safely feed my family a bowl of pure corn flakes…

Sharing Means Freedom!
