I do…but only certain ones & Redbridge is NOT one of them. I don’t care for the taste, but the real reason is it makes me sick. Yep, I know it’s gluten free. But, for some weird reason my body doesn’t like sorghum, at least products made from the good ol’ USA sorghum. It sounds crazy, I know. I didn’t believe it either for a LONG time. I just thought it was my imagination or something. I did a lot of experimenting with using sorghum flour in baked goods, Redbridge beer & lots of other sorghum GF foods. It is definitely the (ahem..American ) sorghum. (I’ll post soon about some of the problematic, seemingly American, GF grains later…)
So, fast forward a few years & hubby brings home some dark, GF beer from Belgium to try. So exciting! I deflated when I read the label. SORGHUM & MILLET – both no-no’s for me. Drat! Well, I decided to just sip a bit, esp. after I saw how beautiful it was poured into the glass. Having a super-sonic gluten detection system, I usually know pretty quickly if something is not quite right. First sip seemed fine & so the did the second…long story short – these beers are not only wonderful to drink, I can drink them! Yippee!!! I guess you’re wondering what beer I’m talking about, huh? Well, how about you come to a gluten free/celiac meeting this week, where we’re having a gluten beer tasting & try some yourself. :-) Seriously, if you’re in the Norfolk, NE, western Iowa or SE South Dakota area, come join us on Tuesday, November 16th. My hubby & The Gluten Free Beer Association, along with some gluten free breweries are sponsoring the beer tasting. Leave a comment or shoot me an email and I’ll give ya the details.
Oh, the beer…right…it’s Green’s Dubbel Dark -
